Capacity Building Workshop on Science Policy Practice Interface (SPPI) for Achieving Water Security in Pakistan October 9, 2025

PCRWR in collaboration with UNESCO organized the capacity building workshop on strengthening the Science Policy Practice Interface (SPPI) for achieving water security in Pakistan commenced with an engaging session with academia, held at COMSATS University Islamabad, Wah Campus, on 8th October 2025. The event brought together representatives from academia, particularly young researchers and students, to deliberate on the pressing water challenges of the country in the wake of climate change.
Mr. Muhammad Kashif Manzoor, Deputy Director Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) delivered a detailed presentation underscoring the importance of strengthening collaboration between scientists, policymakers, and practitioners. He highlighted that the SPPI framework aims to bridge the existing communication gap between research and policy by promoting knowledge exchange, capacity building, and integrated approaches to water resource management. His presentation inspired participants to contribute their research toward actionable solutions that can support national water security goals.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Abid, UNESCO Chair on Knowledge Systems for Integrated Water Resources Management at COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI), appreciated the efforts of PCRWR for initiating the SPPI framework and its continuous commitment to fostering collaboration among key stakeholders in the water sector. He highlighted that such initiatives are vital for translating scientific findings into policy interventions and practical applications, ultimately strengthening Pakistan’s resilience to water related challenges.
Concluding the session, Prof. Dr. Ehsan Ullah Munir, Director of COMSATS University Islamabad, Wah Campus, appreciated PCRWR for organizing an interactive session that fostered meaningful engagement among academia, researchers, and youth. He emphasized the pivotal role of young scholars in developing evidence-based water solutions and expressed hope that such collaborative efforts will continue to inspire and empower youth to contribute actively toward sustainable water governance and the achievement of water security in Pakistan.
