Visit of Chief Barani Areas Development (ABAD) to Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR), February 12, 2025
The ABAD team, visited PCRWR on 12th February, 2025. The team was led by Mr. Arif Niazi, Chief, ABAD. The purpose of the visit was to explore the new avenues of collaboration in the area of rainwater harvesting and water conservation. Ms. Bareerah Fatima, Deputy Director, PCRWR, welcomed the guests and briefed the scope, mandate and major achievements of the Council. She explained that the Council has introduced climate smart technologies & interventions for conservation of water and protection of ecosystems through nature-based solutions. She also briefed the PCRWR initiatives related to rainwater harvesting and water conservation.
Engr. Dilshad Arshad, Director Hydrology highlighted PCRWR’s significant achievements in groundwater recharge and efforts to combat groundwater depletion. Muhammad Kashif Manzoor, Deputy Director PCRWR briefed on rainwater harvesting design, highlighting its capacity-building aspects and cost analysis, emphasizing the importance of efficient water conservation strategies for sustainable resource management.
Mr. Arif Niazi, Chief of ABAD, discussed the proposed plan for rooftop rainwater harvesting in the Pothwar, region, highlighting the water scarcity issues in these areas and the need for climate smart solutions. He emphasized the importance of implementing rainwater harvesting systems in schools, hospitals, and public buildings to address the challenge, acknowledging that PCRWR has already made significant contributions in this field through extensive research and implementation efforts.
Mr. Arif Niazi Chief, ABAD, appreciated the role and work of PCRWR in field of rainwater harvesting activities and also visited water conservation models installed at the PCRWR premises office like Rooftop Rainwater Harvesting and Ground Water Recharge. The Chief showed keen interest in the initiatives taken up by the council and appreciated the rainwater activities of PCRWR and ensured to strengthen the mutual cooperation with PCRWR.
