Training and Inauguration Ceremony of Rainwater Harvesting and Groundwater Recharge Sites under CF-WRAP Project, District Okara 06 January, 2026

Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR), Ministry of Water Resources, is providing technical support to the Sungi Development Foundation (SDF) for the implementation of the project “Promoting Rainwater Harvesting and Aquifer Recharge for Climate Resilience through Community Actions in District Okara, Punjab”, in collaboration with Oxford Policy Management (OPM) and with the support of UK International Development.
Under this pilot initiative, a total of 20 rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge sites are planned across District Okara, of which 10 sites have been successfully completed, while the remaining 10 sites are in the pipeline for completion. These sites aim to demonstrate practical, community-based solutions for water conservation, groundwater recharge, and climate resilience.
In this regard, In this regard, A one-day training session was conducted on 06 January 2026, followed by an inauguration ceremony on 07 January 2026, at one of the completed sites. The training was attended by stakeholders from various organizations, including government departments, District Council, Election Commission, University of Faisalabad (Okara Campus), University of Okara, Post Graduate College for Boys, Government Vocational Training Institute, St. John’s Church, Social Welfare Department, Special Education Department, and other local institutions.
The session focused on awareness raising, operation and maintenance, and hands-on physical demonstrations of rainwater harvesting and recharge systems to ensure long-term sustainability and community ownership.
This initiative reflects a collective effort toward sustainable water management and climate adaptation through practical, locally driven actions.
